Kid Rock held a press conference on Tuesday to discuss his new hat.  “As of Saturday, October 20, 2007 performer, Kid Rock (that is myself) purchased a new hat,” Rock read from a prepared statement.  “This hat will be featured on my head during upcoming performances and promotional stops.”  In addition to helping Rock promote his newly released record, the hat is said to also keep the rain off his head.  Rock then took questions from the audience (more…)

My little brother got fired from his job today. I mean come on, dude. This is like your 3rd job this summer. So I hook Chris, aka Li’l Chris cause he’s a li’l punk ass bitch, up with this job bussing tables at the Hard Rock Cafe. I mean, how can you screw that up. Just pick up the plates, bro. Take to kitchen. You’re done. Except not Chris. He’s got to have a spazz attack on his 2nd night there. (more…)

Jan. 13, 2004. A day that will always be seared into your brain. A day you will tell your grandchildren. Yes, this was the day that MC Hammer hung with Vanilla Ice. No, it was not an episode of The Surreal Life. It was something called WB’s 2004 All Star Party. These must of been the guys that couldn’t get in. (more…)

We’ll, Cheeseandbeer is back from SXSW and finally got a decent night of sleep.  It’s been long in coming.  Over the next few weeks, we’ll be digging through the 1000+ photos taken during the festival and posting the galleries up here.  Shows we attended and have photos for include:  Maps & Atlases (left), Clem Snide, Steve Earle, Spoon, The Tripwires, Aqueduct and so many more.

It’s Wednesday and raining. Awesome. Yesterday was a downpour, but we managed to make it out to the Mohawk for the Seattle vs. Austin show. Good times. Well, until Matt from Thee Emergency disrobed during their set and played the rest of the show naked. Now we’re sitting at Jo’s Coffee Shop waiting for the rain to stop. Maybe tomorrow.

I’m off to SXSW today at some god awful time of the morning.  Tonight will start an unending week of music, beer and BBQ.  Heaven right here on earth.  I was hoping to make some daily updates, but since I will be without laptop, there may be few, if any updates.  For your enjoyment, I have scheduled some filler – and you know how I love filler.  So look out for the Fabio Birthday Gallery, some snippet on ‘American Idol’ and hopefully a Helloo from the road.

Genesis announced their first North American tour in 15 years today, kicking off in Toronto on Sept. 7 and ending on Oct. 12 in Los Angeles. And the other 11 dates in between? WHO CARES, cause they don’t come within 800 miles of Seattle! As Gob, from “Arrested Development” would say, “Oh, Come On!!!” (more…)

If you didn’t catch their short performance at the Grammys last night, fear not, for the Police have announced today they will be embarking on a world tour. (more…)

Despite my recent flirting with some aspects of heavy metal, I can’t claim to be a fan of the genre in general. This means, I have no interest in the head banging, hair flying, fist poundage that is Ozzfest. But you might. So here I report, alas, 3 days late, that Ozzfest 2007 will be free. The Prince of Darkness and his lovely wife had this announcement (more…)

I’m going to see Smokin’ Aces tonight. I’ll let you know how it is. In the meantime, here’s a photo gallery of stills from the movie: (more…)

You don’t need Cheeseandbeer to tell you who this years’ Oscar nominees are. You can’t tie your shoes without seeing a thousand different versions of the list. Blah blah blah… “The Departed” … blah blah… Helen Mirren … blah blah … “Babel” … blah … Leo. They all look like wonderful picks, and we’re already trying to hunt down those flicks that were nominated that we’ve yet to see. But there were a few that made us do a spit take, which is where we come in. (more…)

I’m not a violent guy. Ask anyone that knows me and they’ll tell you that I’m a lover, not a fighter. This is especially true when it comes to music. I will champion the most assanine music on the planet (see my review of the “Borat Soundtrack”). But even I have my limits. Times when I’m so driven to frustration, that I must lash out. With that, I give you the bands I wanted to punch, so, so bad, in 2006… (more…)

Roving film critic and eternal composer of disjointed musical games, Stuart McLeod, sends us his favorite films of 2006. Short and sweet, with one note added: “… substitute ‘An Inconvenient Truth‘ for ‘Children of Men‘. Gore’s movie is what might happen. Children of Men shows a nightmarish future happening.” So without further ado: (more…)

I suppose it’s inevitable – making an end of the year Best of… list. I was hoping to avoid it, but alas, it just kept creeping up again and again. I never used to do these things until a few years ago when I somehow got on a list of friends contributing their lists from all over the world. I found them fascinating. Living in a fairly indie-pop dominated city, one can forget what other music travels around the world. (more…)

I came late to the party, and it seemed the party was mostly over. My dalliances in heavy metal were brief and extended to most of the hair bands of the ’80s (Ratt, Mötley Crüe, Quiet Riot) with the addition of Metallica. These were peppered along side my love affair of all things prog-rock, so perhaps it was not meant to last. My love of Rush and Genesis was far greater than my love of Dokken. There were a lot of metal bands from that era that I never really listened to, or if I had, I didn’t have the scratch to go purchase an album. Bands like Slayer, Iron Maiden and Anthrax. And of course, the granddaddy of them all – Black Sabbath. (more…)

Mel’s new movie, “Apocalypto” confirms that he has a fetish for man-on-man violence. Apparently he had a Mayan history expert on-set. It seems apparent that he also had a torture expert advising on 101 ways to destroy human flesh (or maybe it all came from Mel’s imagination). Throughout the movie, I could hear Rachel and Suze on either side of me exclaiming “oh”, “damn” and “now that was unnecessary”. (more…)

Darren Aronofsky’s new film “The Fountain” doesn’t seem to be getting very good reviews. From that, I went into it with the expectation that the plot would be extremely hard to follow, verging on avant-garde. I actually found it rather easy to follow. (more…)
